1. What is a Hydraulic Control Valve?
A Hydraulic Control Valve (HCV) is a water-pressure-operated valve designed for automated fluid management. Unlike manual valves, an HCV functions as a complete system, consisting of a main valve integrated with pilot lines, pilot valves, needle valves, ball valves, and pressure gauges.
 
2. Common Types and Structural Designs
Depending on the application, hydraulic control valves are configured for specific functions:
 
Functional Categories: Remote Control Float Valves, Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs), Slow-Closing Check Valves, Flow Control Valves, Pressure Relief/Sustaining Valves, and Pump Control Valves.

3. How Does a Hydraulic Control Valve Work?
The operation of both diaphragm and piston types is driven by the differential pressure (ΔP) between the upstream and downstream flow, managed by the pilot system.
 
Full Opening: When water in the upper control chamber is discharged to the atmosphere or a low-pressure zone, the upward force beneath the disc exceeds the downward force, pushing the valve into a fully open position.
 
Full Closure: If the pressure water is trapped in the upper chamber, the downward force exceeds the upward pressure from the bottom, forcing the disc into a tight shut-off.
 
Modulating/Regulating Mode: The adjustable pilot valve continuously monitors downstream pressure. By automatically opening or closing its small orifice, it fluctuates the pressure within the control chamber, allowing the main valve to maintain a precise throttling position.
