The Development History of Regulating Valves

The Development History of Regulating Valves

The development of regulating valves has a history of seventy to eighty years since the beginning of the 20th century, and has produced ten major categories of regulating valve products, self operated valves, and positioners. The development process is as follows:

In the 1920s, primitive regulating valves for stable pressure were introduced.

In the 1930s, products such as double seat valves and single seat valves with "V" - shaped notches were introduced.

In the 1940s, positioners emerged and new varieties of regulating valves were further developed, including diaphragm valves, angle valves, butterfly valves, ball valves, etc.

In the 1950s, ball valves were widely promoted and used, and three-way valves replaced two single seat valves in the system.

In the 1960s, after a series of improved designs, standardization, and normalization of the above-mentioned products in China, the country finally had its own complete series of products. The seven products we still use in large quantities, including single seat valves, double seat valves, angle valves, three-way valves, diaphragm valves, butterfly valves, and ball valves, are still at the level of the 1960s. At this time, foreign countries began to introduce the eighth type of structural regulating valve - sleeve valve.

In the 1970s, another new structure of product - eccentric rotary valve was introduced (the ninth category of regulating valve varieties). During this period, sleeve valves were widely used abroad. In the late 1970s, China jointly designed sleeve valves, giving China its own series of sleeve valve products.

1980s: In the early 1980s, due to the reform and opening up, China successfully introduced petrochemical equipment and regulating valve technology, which promoted the use of sleeve valves and eccentric rotary valves, especially sleeve valves, which had the potential to replace single and double seat valves, and their use became increasingly widespread. In the late 1980s, another major development in regulating valves was Japan's Cv3000 and compact regulating valves. In terms of structure, they changed the single spring pneumatic diaphragm actuator to a multi spring diaphragm actuator, and the valve structure was only improved, not changed. Its prominent feature is to reduce the weight and height of the regulating valve by 30%, and increase the flow coefficient by 30%.

In the 1990s, the focus was on tackling, improving, and enhancing reliability and special and difficult products. In the late 1990s, Hualin Company launched its tenth structural product - a fully functional ultra light valve. Its outstanding features are breakthroughs in reliability, functionality, and weight. Breakthrough in functionality - the only product with full functionality, therefore, a single product can replace many products with incomplete functionality, simplifying selection, use, and variety; Breakthrough in weight -70-80% lighter than leading products such as single seat valves, double seat valves, and sleeve valves, and 40-50% lighter than precision small valves; Breakthrough in Reliability - Solved a series of unreliable factors in traditional valves, such as sealing reliability, positioning reliability, and action reliability. The launch of this product has brought China's regulating valve technology and application level to the advanced level of the late 1990s; It is a major breakthrough in regulating valves; Especially electronic fully functional ultra lightweight valves will become the mainstream of regulating valves in the next century.
