flow control valve using two types of valves ball and poppet valve, the main difference between them that the ball when it seal it seal, and the poppet may b in different shapes and you can integer it with holes, example if u want to make a reducing valve with cheak ,second the poppet closed with oil pressure and u can neglect the spring it called then make up valve but the ball closed with the force of the spring.

A flow control valve is a valve that controls the flow. There is usually a flow meter in the line before or after the  Control Valve. A signal comes from this meter and controls to position of the actuator on the valve. The actuator opens and closes for the required flow automatically. The valve for this can be a ball type valve. Butterfly valves are also used a lot for flow control valves.
